It requires meticulous floor prep: Good surface preparation is the key to the material properly penetrating and adhering to the surface. The floor will have to be chemically treated with a commercial-grade degreaser. It will be necessary to grind the surface down to open the concrete floors mechanically. All cracks and expansion joints will have to be filled, among many other steps that the average DIY will overlook.
Polyurea is tricky to work with: Polyurea is extremely unforgiving, and it’s cures FAST. A polyurea floor system includes a basecoat, a blend of flakes, and a polyurea topcoat. That gives you three opportunities to make a mistake. You’ll have one shot to apply it right.
